The Shape of Japan

Japan

JAPAN

Japan is an island nation surrounded by the sea. It is an arc- shaped archipelago that expands a long way from northeast to southwest. The four islands Hokkaido, Honshu, Shikoku and Kyushu are the main islands.

The population of Japan is over 120,000,000, the ninth largest in the world. Japan's transportation system is so well developed that it is so easy and safe to travel in the country.

National Flag

NATIONAL FLAG (HINOMARU )

The Japanese national flag ( hinomaru ) has a red circle on a white backgrand. It was used by merchant ships to identify themselves as being of Japanese nationality during the Edo period ( 1603-1868 ). Japan ( Nippon ) means" The land of the rising sun", so the red circle is a symbol of the rising sun.

UMI NO HI (The Third Monday of July)

UMI NO HI ( Marine Day ) is a day to be thankful for the blessings of the sea, and to express wishes for the prosperity of Japan as a country surrounded by the sea. It is one of national holidays in Japan.
